Artie Kamiya is a man who wears many hats. He is a long-time author, editor, publisher, and presenter. For example, his first book was published in 1985 (Elementary Teachers Handbook of Indoor & Outdoor Games) and has been used by over 100,000 teachers across the United States. He is the editor of The Great Activities Newspaper for K-8 Physical Education now in it’s 36th year. His publishing company has helped many of today’s grassroots PE teachers see their dreams come true in print. And as a presenter, he has conducted over 400 workshops in 45 different states. Artie currently serves on the Board of Directors of SHAPE America and is the founder of the National Physical Education & School Sport Institute based in Asheville, North Carolina.
Joe McCarthy is the physical education teacher at Meadowview Elementary School in Farmington, MN. Joe McCarthy is a relentless advocate for the benefits of Physical Education! Joe has implemented a number of initiatives to increase student activity levels before, during and after school as well as programs that use physical activity as a catalyst for academic improvement in struggling learners. It is little wonder Joe has been asked to present his comprehensive program in many states across the nation. He currently serves as a board member for MNSHAPE, MN Healthy Kids Coalition & is on the SHAPE America Central District Leadership Council. Joe was named the 2012 MN SHAPE Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year; 2012 American Heart Association Volunteer Impact Award Winner; and 2012 Active Schools Acceleration Project Midwest Regional Winner of $25,000. Joe was also the Chair of the 2016 SHAPE America K-12 Standards Based Progress Report Card.
