Be on the lookout for the 2014 School Health Profiles, which will be conducted this spring. The Profiles is a system of surveys assessing school health policies and practices across the United States through the responses of principals and lead health teachers in middle and high schools.
In the meantime, check out the 2012 School Health Profiles which has recently been released. Compare your school’s health policies and practices to the rest of North Dakota schools.
Did you know that in North Dakota middle schools and high schools:
- 29% prohibit all forms of advertising and promotion of candy, fast food restaurants, or soft drinks?
- 45% require students to take two or more health education courses?
- only 56% have a health education curriculum that addresses all 8 national standards for health education?
- one out of every three schools use the School Health Index or similar self-assessment tool to assess their policies and activities for nutrition and physical activity?
